Amakhosi Face Stellies in Carling Knockout Test

Kaizer Chiefs will head to Cape Town, Western Cape, for a Carling Knockout Cup Round 16 clash against Stellenbosch FC, with both sides desperate to turn their fortunes around on Sunday, 5 October.

Stellenbosch, the inaugural winners of the competition in 2023, have struggled this season with just one win in nine league outings, leaving them 14th in the Premier Soccer League standings. Their goalless draw with Chippa United last Sunday, 28 September, highlighted ongoing issues in front of goal.

Chiefs, meanwhile, are also battling inconsistency. Winless in their last three league matches, they sit fifth on the log, six points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Despite creating chances, Amakhosi have lacked composure in attack.

Assistant coach, Cedric Kaze, remained optimistic during the pre-match interview on Friday, 3 October: “We made 22 shots, eight on target, 510 passes and 70% of possession… If we keep the momentum, keep our focus, I’m sure goals are going to come soon.”

Amakhosi can take heart from their promising recent record against Stellies, having beaten them twice last season and again in the opening match of the current campaign. But with both sides searching for confidence, Sunday’s encounter promises to be a test of who can finally find their cutting edge.
